Product Description

Telma-AM Tablet combines two blood-pressure medicines in one dose. Each tablet has telmisartan 40 mg and amlodipine 5 mg. Telmisartan is an ARB. It stops angiotensin II from tightening the arteries. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It relaxes the vessel wall so blood flows more easily. Together, they are used when one medicine has not brought high blood pressure down far enough. Lower pressure reduces the long-term strain that leads to heart attack and stroke. Take it once a day. Do not stop it suddenly. It is a prescription medicine.

Key Information

  • Combination tablet for high blood pressure

  • Contains Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg

  • ARB plus calcium channel blocker

  • Usually taken once a day, with or without food

  • Tablet form (usually a strip of 15)

  • For oral use

  • Prescription medicine from Glenmark

Key Ingredient

Telmisartan (40 mg), Amlodipine (5 mg)

Key Benefits

  • Lowers blood pressure from two directions

  • Relaxes tight arteries

  • Helps when a single medicine is not enough

  • Reduces long-term risk of heart attack and stroke

  • One tablet covers the day

  • Works even when you have no symptoms

How Does It Work?

Telmisartan blocks the AT1 receptor, so angiotensin II cannot clamp the vessels or push the body to hold salt. Amlodipine stops calcium from tightening the muscle in the artery wall, so the vessel stays wider. Pressure falls more steadily than with either salt alone in many people. You may not feel the change. A home reading is how you know it is working.

Directions For Use

  • Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes, usually once daily.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew it.

  • It may be taken with or without food. Keep the same time each day.

  • Do not add a separate Telma or amlodipine tablet unless your doctor has asked you to.

  • If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless the next dose is close. Do not double it.

  • Do not stop because a clinic reading looked better.

  • Less salt, regular walking and no smoking help the tablet.

Safety Information

  • Prescription medicine. Do not share it.

  • Do not use it if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Telmisartan can harm the baby. Stop and call your doctor the same day if you conceive.

  • Breastfeeding women should use it only if a doctor advises it.

  • Tell your doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure or a past reaction to an ARB, ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker.

  • Ankle swelling can happen from amlodipine. Raising the legs may ease mild puffiness. Report swelling that is new or comes with breathlessness.

  • Telmisartan can raise potassium. Avoid salt substitutes and potassium supplements unless your doctor agrees.

  • Dizziness is common at first. Stand up slowly. Do not drive until you feel steady.

  • Keep out of children’s reach.

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight.

Possible Side Effects

  • Swelling of ankles or feet

  • Headache

  • Dizziness or sleepiness

  • Tiredness

  • Flushing

  • Upset stomach

  • High potassium

  • Low blood pressure (uncommon)

FAQs

Q1. What is Telma-AM Tablet used for?

Ans. It is used for high blood pressure that needs two medicines. Telmisartan and amlodipine relax the arteries in different ways, so blood pressure falls.

Q2. Is Telma-AM a prescription medicine?

Ans. Yes. It is a prescription medicine from Glenmark. Do not start it because someone in the family takes Telma, and do not change the dose yourself.

Q3. Why are my ankles puffy?

Ans. Amlodipine often causes mild ankle swelling. Raise your legs when you sit. Tell your doctor if the swelling is painful, sudden, or comes with shortness of breath.

Q4. Can I take Telma-AM in pregnancy?

Ans. No. Telmisartan can harm the unborn baby. If you become pregnant, stop the tablet and contact your doctor the same day. Do not wait.

Q5. Can I stop it when my pressure is normal?

Ans. No. Normal readings usually mean the tablet is working. Stopping lets the pressure rise again. Only your doctor should change or stop it.

Q6. How should Telma-AM tablets be stored?

Ans. Keep the strip in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and sunlight. Store it out of children’s reach and use it before the expiry date.
